PhD-level psychologist · bilingual · telehealth in 43+ states
Dr. Rendon provides culturally-rooted, neurodivergent-affirming psychotherapy for high achieving professionals.
You’ve been a trailblazer in one way or another. Maybe as the first in your family to go to college, or a first-generation business owner navigating a competitive market.
An immigrant, or a child of immigrants. A neurodivergent thinker. A person of color.
But with that accomplishment comes pressure not to mess it up. Do any of these show up in your life?
A relentless inner critic that questions everything you achieve.
An exhaustion that replaced the sense of purpose you used to find in your work.
A mask you wear daily — and a quiet fear of being "found out."
These experiences are common among high achievers. They run even deeper when you’ve been succeeding in spaces that were never built with you in mind. You need a framework, solid tools, and support to face these challenges. These are the pillars I bring to our work.
SPECIALTIES
I work with populations that high-demand environments tend to underserve. Learn more below.
You spot solutions others miss and care deeply about your work. But the hidden cost of masking and performing in neurotypical environments is real. Together we build strategies that work for you.
You have learned to code-switch between worlds -at work, at home, in your community. I work with Latinx professionals navigating identity, acculturation, and the toll of being a first.
Your have a demanding path with very little space to acknowledge the pressure. I offer that space, for graduate students, postdocs, and established investigators at every career stage.
You are a government or multilateral development agency professional (World Bank, IDB, IMF,, PAHO). I bring cultural fluency and compassion to help you navigate moral injury and institutional disruption.
HOW I WORK
I work with you individually to develop a treatment plan that is intentional, and builds upon your strengths. Together we:
1. Clarify your goals. What does ‘better’ look like for you, in your work, your relationships, your relationship with yourself?
2. Understand and challenge patterns. We map the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors maintaining perfectionism, avoidance, overcompensation.
3. Build and practice skills. We use and adjust tangible strategies to your pace and cognitive style.
4. Track progress deliberately. We review goals periodically and update your plan as your needs evolve.
My primary orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Where clinically indicated, I draw on schema-informed and DBT skills to support you.

AREAS I WORK WITH
ABOUT DR. RENDON
I’m Dr. María José Rendón, a licensed psychologist, and the founder of Potomac CBT Center.
I was born in Ecuador and have lived in the U.S. for over 20 years. I’ve navigated these systems as a bilingual immigrant, a first-generation professional, and a scientist-practitioner.
I offer cognitive behavioral therapy not just because the evidence supports it effectiveness, but because its structured, goal-oriented approach reflects how I naturally work through problems. I find that structure, when offered with genuine care, is itself a form of respect. It is my way of saying that I take your time, your suffering, and your goals seriously.
For people who have spent years feeling stuck and wishing for guidance, I invite you to work with me to develop a clear framework and a concrete path forward.
