Burnout is not a reflection of your character.

It’s inevitable in high-pressure roles without the right support and foresight. Layer on being the first in your family to navigate institutional spaces, being neurodivergent in settings not built for you, and weathering subtle but constant microaggressions, and it’s easy to take on the belief that you don’t belong.

So you push yourself harder and harder.

And what once felt meaningful now sparks fatigue and panic.

You might be in "burnout mode" if you are...

  • Stuck in a cycle of activation and exhaustion, no longer able to truly relax.
  • Struggling to find joy in work that used to inspire you.
  • Constantly wearing a mask, vigilant that others will “find you out”
  • Activated by subtle bias and signals that you don’t belong.
  • Battling an inner voice that relentlessly discounts your achievements.
  • Drained from navigating unspoken workplace expectations.

But with the right support, this cycle can be overcome.

If you’re tired of carrying it all on your own, you’re in the right place.

I’m Dra. Maria Jose Rendon, and I work with high achieving Latine professionals and scientists looking to re-learn how to protect their time and stay productive without sacrificing authenticity.

I am a trained cognitive behavioral therapist. In working with me, you can expect collaborative and structured guidance grounded in evidence-based methods that foster a healthier connection with yourself and those around you.

I Specialize in Working With...

 Latinx Emerging and Established Scientists

You juggle multiple roles and navigate academic hierarchies. Even when your work shines, your inner critic finds ways to make you doubt yourself.

I work with grad students, postbacs, postdocs, and established investigators. Whether you need help adjusting to a new city, advocating for yourself, or facing writer’s block, we will build strategies for sustainable life-work balance.

ADHD and Autistic Professionals

You easily notice patterns and see solutions others fail to see. You love optimizing systems and care deeply about your work, yet constant demands, the hidden load of managing people and pacing yourself make work-life balance feel legendary.

Together we design flexible strategies that support your productivity while respecting your autonomy and control.

Multilateral Development Professionals

You’ve moved to the U.S. and are building your career at institutions like the World Bank, PAHO, the IDB, or the IMF. You operate with precision, diplomacy, and careful relationship management. But you struggle with the constant code-switching and yearn to find more balance with your personal life.

I work with high achievers to manage these pressures with intention and in line with their values.

My Approach: Structured, Collaborative, Measurable

What does growth look like for you? What would you like to be different in a month, six months, or a year? I work with you on an individual basis to develop a treatment plan that is intentional, structured, and adjusts to your pace and resources. We therapy directly supports meaningful change. Together we:

  1. Clarify your goals: We figure out what “better” means to you in your career and personal life.
  2. Identify patterns that no longer serve you: We understand better your perfectionism, avoidance, overcompensation, old trauma responses and get ready to let them go.
  3. Shift core beliefs: We use CBT and schema-informed approaches to challenge limiting thoughts.
  4. Practice skills together: We try techniques in session and with doable homework, adjusting it to your pace.
  5. Build independence: We strengthen concrete executive functioning tools and behavioral strategies.
  6. Track progress: We check periodically how we are doing and update goals thoughtfully.

I use evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and mindfulness, within a culturally attuned neurodivergent-affirming lens that acknowledges systemic pressures impacting your mental health.

Who I Am, Who I Serve

I am trained as a cognitive behavioral therapist, and deeply believe in what I have to offer. CBT is not just an evidence-based and effective approach to address a wide range of psychological concerns. Its structured style resonates with the way I already think and approach problems in my own life. I also find that it brings a sense of safety and direction for clients who are looking for concrete ways to better and manage their emotions. I believe that CBT helps people critically examine their thoughts and emotions. When presented thoughtfully, the concepts are accessible and can be profoundly empowering, especially when people feel stuck in existing patterns.

On a personal note, I was born and raised in Ecuador and moved to the U.S. as a high schooler. I have now lived in the U.S. for over 20 years. I carry the perspectives of an immigrant, a cultural and linguistic minority, and a U.S.-trained scientist-practitioner. I am a wife, a mom, and a business owner. Each stage has brought challenges but also growth I am proud of. Aware of the privilege my education affords, I also hope my support can elevate those navigating systems not designed for them.

I want to partner with you to help you embrace your own journey with confidence and joy. My hope is that, together, you can genuinely believe that being enough is good enough, and that you have much to offer to your loved ones and your community.
